U.S. Colored Troops

Here’s Steward Henderson giving a presentation on the USCT at the 2021 Emerging Civil War Virtual Symposium.

The video’s description reads, “Some 180,000 African Americans — both free and formerly enslaved — served in the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War. Steward Henderson told the story of these men who by the end of the war would ultimately make up 10 percent of the Union Army. Mr. Henderson is a park ranger and historian at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park as well as a living historian with two different colored troop regiments. This talk was part of a symposium hosted by the ‘Emerging Civil War’ blog.”
