Dr. George C. Rable delivering the 2018 Fortenbaugh Lecture
Dr. George C. Rable, Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Alabama, gave this year’s Robert Fortenbaugh Memorial Lecture in Gettysburg on November 19, 2018. His talk, titled “Fighting for Reunion: Dilemmas of Hatred and Vengeance” examines hatred of the other side in the Civil War and calls for vengeance, and how that created a problem for supporters of the Union who wanted to restore the Union and reconcile the sections.
