Race, Suffrage, and the 15th Amendment

Here’s law professor Michael Klarman of Harvard Law School delivering a presentation on the weaknesses of the 15th Amendment and how those weaknesses were exploited to deny African Americans their right to suffrage. The video’s description reads, “Professor Michael Klarman talked about what he sees as the flaws of the 15th Amendment and the exploitation and suppression of African American voters by both the Republican and Democratic Parties. This was part of a symposium hosted by the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee titled, ‘Enfranchising Equality: 150 years of the 15th Amendment.’ ”
