Imperfect Union

Here’s Charles “Chuck” Raasch speaking about his recently published book, Imperfect Union, about the Civil War correspondent Sam Wilkeson and the death of his son, Bayard Wilkeson, a Union artillery officer in the Eleventh Corps at the Battle of Gettysburg.

The video’s description reads, “Chuck Raasch talked about his book Imperfect Union: A Father’s Search for His Son in the Aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg, in which he recalls the death of Lieutenant Bayard Wilkeson on the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg, and his father, Sam Wilkeson, a New York Times correspondent, who penned an account of the battle.”

I wasn’t that impressed with his grasp of things outside the narrow story of the Wilkesons, so I’m not sure I’m going to purchase this book. Maybe if it appears in the remainders.
