Here’s Professor Brian Craig Miller of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, delivering a lecture on confederate veterans and their treatment after the Civil War. This is part of C-SPAN’s “Lectures in History” series and is a lecture from Professor Williams’ class on the Civil War and Reconstruction.
The video’s description reads, “Professor Brian Craig Miller talked about the experience of Confederate Civil War veterans during Reconstruction. He described how options for support varied widely between the Southern states. He also argued that many southern organizations founded to aid veterans instead put their money towards large monuments and pro-Confederate propaganda.”
Note well that last sentence, showing how instead of aiding actual confederate veterans, many groups funded monuments to confederates and the confederate cause.
This is really an excellent lecture.
