The House Divided Project on Reconstruction

The House Divided Project is at Dickinson College and is a Civil War research engine for students. You can explore the website here.

This week, they host Professor Eric Foner discussing “The Significance of Reconstruction in American History.”

Historian Jeffrey Rosen will talk about “America’s Second Founding.”

Finally, there will be a symposium for teachers with historians Matt Pinsker, Greg Downs, and Anne Sarah Rubin.

You can see the details here.

Matt Pinsker appeared on WITF’s Smart Talk this week along with teachers Linda Neeson and Todd Mealy. WITF is the local NPR affiliate. You can listen to the program here.

I’m really looking forward to this. Matt says Professor Foner will argue that the roots of Black Lives Matter can be found in Reconstruction even more than in slavery. I’m in complete agreement, and that’s a conclusion I came to through my reading on Reconstruction. I’m planning a future blog post to discuss it in more detail.

This is going to be a great program.
