The Idea of Southern Identity

Here’s Professor Orville Vernon Burton lecturing on Southern Identity at Clemson University. The video’s description reads, “Clemson history professor Orville Vernon Burton spoke to university students about the southern identity in an introduction to his class on the history and culture of the U.S. South. The class examines the American south from colonial times, through the Civil War and Reconstruction, to the 1960s civil rights era, and up to modern day. This class took place at Clemson University in South Carolina.”

Sorry, Al, have never been particularly attracted to those who read their lectures. Interesting that the second title screen prominently displays a Confederate battle flag.
