U.S. Colored Troops in the Civil War

Here’s Professor Roger Davidson of Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland giving a lecture on Emancipation and the United States Colored Troops in the Civil War. This is really an excellent class.

The video’s description reads, “History Professor Roger Davidson discusses Emancipation and U.S. Colored Troops during the Civil War. Professor Davidson explains how African Americans used the disorder caused by the Civil War to escape enslavement. He also details how former slaves offered their services to Union forces to help bring about the end of slavery. This fifty-minute class took place at Coppin State University in Baltimore.”

  1. This is a really good video. Professor Davidson covers the rationale, passion and bravery of the enslaved people and already Freedmen who would became the USCT.

Recorded in 2012, it was repeated in Feb 2017 on CSPAN3.
