Lincoln, Race, and Emancipation

Here’s Professor Brian Dirck of Anderson University giving a really great lecture on Abraham Lincoln and slavery. He uses Lincoln’s views on slavery as representing the typical Northern view of slavery.

The video’s description says, “Professor Brian Dirck talked about Abraham Lincoln’s life as a method of understanding white American’s views on race and slavery both before and during the Civil War. Professor Dirck argued that prior to his presidency Lincoln was very much a ‘typical American.’ He also spoke about Lincoln’s interactions with both slaves and white supremacists. The class is from his course titled ‘Lincoln, Emancipation and White Supremacy.’ ”
