Southern Miss Removes State Flag

The University of Southern Mississippi is the latest university to remove the Mississippi state flag from its campus because of its confederate symbology. Not only is the battle flag in the canton of the state flag, but the flag itself resembles the first national flag of the confederacy, the “Stars and Bars.”

According to this story and this story, university president Rodney Bennett made the decision this morning. The university plans to make a further statement later today.
