Fall of Richmond and Appomattox

This is Chris Kolakowski at the Emerging Civil War Symposium talking about Richmond and Appomattox in April of 1865. He extends it to the Fall of Bataan in 1942, postulating that Lee’s actions influenced later American actions.

The video’s description reads, “Christopher Kolakowski talked about the experiences of citizens during the fall of Richmond and the decisions by Confederate leaders that led to the surrender at Appomattox. He also spoke about similarities between Appomattox and the Battle of Bataan during World War II, and how Generals Grant and Lee’s actions at Appomattox influenced later military leaders.”

While there were a few minor factual missteps, I think overall he did a fine job in setting the stage for the rest of the talks to follow his.
