What the Short-sighted, Anti-History Education Mayor Papenfuse Wants to Jettison

The National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, targeted by the current mayor, Eric Papenfuse, for obliteration, is one of the best in the nation.

Here is an excerpt from this article:

[begin excerpt]”That collection is probably the best collection in the country,” said Hari Jones, assistant director and curator of the African American Civil War Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The Harrisburg museum, which this week came under fire amid the Stephen Reed scandal, is regarded as one of the best facilities in the country among Civil War historians.

While there are “many fine institutions” across the country, the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Va., Gettysburg National Military Park and National Civil War Museum are regarded as the top three, according to Pete Carmichael, director of the Civil War Institute in Gettysburg.

“It’s difficult to find another museum or cultural institution that exceeds what the museum has in Harrisburg,” he said.[end excerpt]

What kind of a foolish, antieducation ignoramus would want to get rid of a museum of this caliber? This mayor appears to be doing all he can to let his personal animus toward former Mayor Reed to hurt the city of Harrisburg, its children’s history education, and the general public’s history education.
