“The Valley of the Shadow” with Ed Ayers

Here’s Professor Ed Ayers talking about the Valley of the Shadow project.  He’s about to start it up again for the second volume of his study.  This is an excellent presentation.

From the video’s description:  “American Civil War Museum Board Chairman Ed Ayers brought the Museum’s 150th commemorations to a close at Appomattox. In this morning lecture, he discussed the ‘Valley of the Shadow,’ a digital archive of primary sources that documents the lives of people in Augusta County, Virginia, and Franklin County, Pennsylvania, during the era of the American Civil War.”

  1. One of my favourite historians— thank you for sharing!

One of my favorite sources. Read pages and pages while I was working on my “Today” series. Some times I found myself reading all afternoon on stuff that was not particularly germane to what I was working on at the time. Fantastic stuff. Only wish the volume of Ed’s microphone had been a bit higher.
