Here’s the incomparable Ranger Matt Atkinson educating us on the action in the Peach Orchard at Gettysburg. What shocked me was that he’s wearing his Smokey Bear hat and not his ball cap. 🙂
Another great presentation, Al. Thanks for sharing. One of our former employees at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids is now a N.P.S. ranger at GB. He told me a few years ago that the training at GB is absolutely intense. Much easier, he said, to become a ranger at Shiloh or Petersburg or Antietam. One of the last GB tests is a drive-through with an experienced ranger. When he/she asks “Where’s the monument with the angels” or “Where was the 1st New York Artillery?” the newbie had better know the answer.
Yes–Mr. Atkinson’s talks are great. Glad I had a chance to attend not one, but two!
