Making the Civil War New

Here’s Edward Ayers delivering the keynote address at the “The Civil War:  Fresh Perspectives” symposium at the National Archives in November of 2010.  He talks about looking at various aspects of the Civil War through a new perspective and gives an idea of the power of digital history.

From the video’s description:  “Edward Ayers gave a talk ‘Making the Civil War New.’ He included pictures from a celebration in Richmond, Virginia, for the centennial of the Civil War and views from University of Richmond Web sites as he talked about changes in perspectives.

This was the keynote address for a daylong symposium, ‘The Civil War: Fresh Perspectives’ on November 20, 2010. The symposium, held in the McGowan Theater in conjunction with the National Archives exhibition, ‘Discovering the Civil War,’ marking the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, was presented in partnership with the Foundation for the National Archives, the University of Richmond, the Lincoln Group of the District of Columbia, and the Civil War Round Table of the District of Columbia.”
